Artificial Grass Installation in Las Vegas, NV
A Las Vegas lawn means watering through 110°F summers and sprinkler repairs that never end. Cacti Landscapes provides artificial grass installation in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV, from lawn removal and caliche-ready base prep to sprinkler capping, seaming, and infill. We install artificial grass for families who want a green yard without mowing, dog owners who need a yard that drains, and homeowners planning an SNWA rebate conversion. Licensed Nevada contractor (License #84942), serving the Las Vegas Valley since 2002.
Why Las Vegas Homeowners Switch to Artificial Grass
Cool-season grass struggles through summer heat, and warm-season grass goes brown in winter unless it is overseeded. Both need regular watering, mowing, and sprinkler repairs. Switching to artificial grass in Las Vegas changes all of that:
- No lawn watering. The turf area no longer needs irrigation.
- No mowing, fertilizing, or overseeding. Upkeep drops to brushing, rinsing, and clearing debris.
- Green all year. The turf has no winter dormancy and no burned patches in summer.
Nevada’s AB 356 bans watering nonfunctional grass with Colorado River water starting January 1, 2027, on property that is not zoned exclusively for single-family homes, which covers HOA common areas, commercial, and multifamily properties. It does not apply to lawns at single-family homes. For homeowners, turf is a choice. HOAs and property managers with nonfunctional grass in common areas can call us to plan the conversion.
Choosing the Right Turf for Desert Heat
Choosing artificial grass in Las Vegas comes down to heat, sun, and drainage. When comparing products, look for:
- Heat-reducing fibers that run cooler than standard turf in summer
- UV-stabilized fibers with a fade warranty, since year-round sun breaks down cheaper turf quickly
- A fully permeable backing, required for the SNWA rebate and for pet drainage
- The right infill: silica sand for general use, antimicrobial infill for pet areas
Artificial Grass for Dogs and Play Areas
Pet turf needs a fully permeable backing, a shorter and denser pile, antimicrobial infill, and extra drainage through the base. Rinsing high-use spots weekly in summer and using a pet-safe enzyme cleaner monthly keeps odor under control. Choose lead-free turf, and leave a shaded spot where pets can rest off the turf on hot days.

How Hot Does Artificial Turf Get in Las Vegas?
Artificial turf in direct summer sun gets much hotter (as high as 169°F) than natural grass and can be too hot to walk on barefoot on a July afternoon. Good design keeps it usable for more of the year:
- Place turf where the house, a patio cover, or trees shade it in the afternoon. Shade trees also count toward SNWA’s plant coverage.
- Keep turf away from west-facing walls and windows that reflect heat onto it.
- Rinse the surface before kids or dogs use it on hot afternoons.
For most families, turf is a morning and evening surface from June through September and an all-day surface the rest of the year.
Our Artificial Turf Installation Process
Most turf problems, from ripples to puddles to odor, trace back to a thin base, poor drainage, or rushed seams.
1. Site Visit and Layout
Our team measures the area, checks grade and drainage, and notes sprinkler zones, trees, and hardscape. We compare turf samples outside in daylight, since color and sheen look different under the Las Vegas sun.
2. Lawn Removal and Sprinkler Capping
Before any capping, we recommend our $80 flat-rate irrigation evaluation so we know which zones to cap, which to convert, and whether leaks are already raising your water bill. Then we remove the grass and roots, cap the lines feeding the turf area at the source.
3. Caliche Base Prep
Much of the valley sits on caliche, a hard layer of calcium carbonate that blocks drainage. We excavate to a consistent depth, break up or drill through caliche where we hit it, then install a crushed rock or decomposed granite base. The base is graded away from the house and compacted in layers so it does not sink or ripple.
4. Drainage for Monsoon Storms and Pet Areas
Monsoon storms can drop heavy rain in minutes. We slope the base so runoff flows away from your foundation. In dog runs, we add extra drainage through the base so urine does not pool on the caliche below.
5. Weed Barrier and Edging
A weed barrier blocks weeds from pushing up through the turf while still letting water drain through. We then lock the perimeter in place with bender board, paver borders, or concrete curbing, depending on your yard layout and the look you want.
If the yard already has standing water or runoff problems, we handle yard drainage installation before the turf goes down.
6. Seaming, Infill, and Final Walkthrough
Every piece of turf is laid in the same grain direction so the yard looks like one continuous lawn, not a patchwork. Seams are joined with seaming tape and adhesive. Infill is then power-brushed into the fibers so the blades stand upright. To finish, we walk the yard with you and check seams, edges, and drainage together.
Artificial Turf vs. Sod vs. Xeriscape: Which Is Right for Your Yard
Turf is not the right answer for every yard. Xeriscaping uses drip irrigation, qualifies for the rebate, and gives you a low-water desert look. Artificial turf uses no water for the lawn area and suits kids, dogs, and homeowners who want a green look, but it has the highest upfront cost. Sod costs the least upfront and gives you real grass, but it uses the most water and does not qualify for the SNWA rebate. Many of the yards we build combine turf and xeriscape, with turf where kids and dogs play and planted desert beds around it.
What Affects Artificial Turf Installation Cost
The price of artificial turf installation in Las Vegas depends on site conditions as much as square footage:
- Square footage. Larger areas usually cost less per square foot.
- Lawn removal and caliche. Both add labor, base material, and disposal.
- Turf grade. Pet, cooling, and premium products cost more.
- Drainage and irrigation changes. Dog run drainage and drip conversion add materials and labor.
- Edging and site access. Concrete curbing and narrow side yards add time to the job.
We price each project after measuring the yard and checking the soil and irrigation, so you know the cost before work begins. On a qualifying 1,000-square-foot conversion, the SNWA rebate pays $5,000, and Las Vegas Valley Water District customers receive an additional $2,000.
Locations We Serve in Las Vegas
We provide artificial grass installation across Henderson, Green Valley, Anthem, Seven Hills, and Paradise, Summerlin, Spring Valley with the same crews and standards we use in Las Vegas. Many master-planned communities in Summerlin and Henderson also require HOA architectural review before front-yard changes, so get approval before scheduling.
FAQs
Quality UV-stabilized turf typically lasts 10 to 15 years in Las Vegas when installed on a properly compacted base. Cheaper fibers, heavy dog traffic, and poor installation shorten that. Check the warranty for UV fade coverage specifically.
No. SNWA must inspect your living, maintained lawn and authorize the project before any grass is removed. If you remove the grass before SNWA approves the project, you lose eligibility for the rebate.
Yes, when you choose lead-free pet turf with permeable backing and antimicrobial infill. Rinse high-use spots regularly, and give your dog a shaded area off the turf on summer afternoons.
Brush high-traffic areas against the grain to lift the blades, blow off leaves and debris, and rinse dust off after windstorms. Top up infill every few years as it settles.
