Tree Trimming Services in Las Vegas, NV
The wrong cut costs more in the desert. Over-thinned trees sunburn, over-trimmed palms weaken, and dense mesquites are more likely to split when monsoon winds hit. Cacti Landscapes provides tree trimming in Las Vegas and Henderson, along with tree pruning for structure and health, so your trees stay safe, clear of the house, and shaded through summer. We are a licensed Nevada contractor (License #84942), serving the Las Vegas Valley since 2002.
Why Tree Trimming in Las Vegas Requires Local Knowledge
Las Vegas trees deal with summer highs above 110°F, intense sun on exposed bark, caliche soil that keeps roots shallow, and monsoon wind from July through September. Trimming and pruning advice written for milder climates does not account for any of that.
Remove too much canopy, and the bark sunburns. Cut heavily in summer, and the tree takes the stress at the worst time of year. Leave a fast grower dense and top-heavy, and it catches wind like a sail. Our crews work in Las Vegas and Henderson yards every week, so we time and size every cut for desert conditions. For species-by-species timing, see our guide to the best time to trim your trees.
Tree Trimming and Pruning Services We Provide
Every job starts with a walk around your trees. We tell you what each tree needs, whether that is trimming, pruning, or both, and you get a price before any work begins.
Clearance Trimming
We trim branches back from your roof, block walls, solar panels, and pool deck, and keep them clear of driveways and sidewalks.
Canopy Thinning Before Monsoon
Selective thinning lets wind pass through mesquite, acacia, and other fast growers instead of pushing against the whole canopy. Palo verde gets a lighter touch, since its thin green bark is prone to sunscald.
Deadwood and Hazard Limb Removal
Dead, cracked, and hanging limbs come out before they fall on your car, roof, or walkway. We also clean up after storm damage.
Structural Pruning for Young Trees
A few well-placed cuts in a young tree’s first years build a strong trunk structure and well-spaced branches. That means fewer large, risky cuts later.
Crown Raising
Low limbs are lifted so you can walk, park, and maintain the yard underneath.
Tree Removal
When a tree is dead, failing, or in the wrong spot, trimming will not fix it. We will tell you honestly if removal is the better call.

Tree Pruning in Las Vegas
Tree pruning targets specific branches: dead and diseased wood, limbs rubbing against each other, and weak V-shaped attachments that tend to split. The goal is a tree that holds up to wind, keeps its shade, and needs less work over time.
We prune just outside the branch collar, where the tree can close over the wound naturally, and we never top trees. Topping leaves stubs that sprout dense, weakly attached growth and usually means more trimming within a few seasons, not less. For a side-by-side comparison, see our guide to tree pruning vs. trimming in Las Vegas.
Palm Tree Trimming in Las Vegas
We trim Mexican fan, Mediterranean fan, date, Canary Island date, and queen palms. Each palm gets dead fronds, seed pods, flower stalks, and loose frond bases removed so the crown stays clean and pods stop dropping into pools and rock beds. Healthy green fronds above horizontal stay on the tree.
We never do hurricane cuts, because removing living fronds starves the palm and can cause the trunk to narrow just below the crown, a weak point known as pencil-pointing. Late spring into early summer is the best window, after flower stalks emerge and before seed pods mature and drop.

How Our Las Vegas Tree Trimming Visits Work
On-Site Assessment
We check each tree’s structure, deadwood, clearance problems, and overall health, then walk you through what we recommend and what it costs.
Irrigation Check on Struggling Trees
Thin canopies, scorched leaf edges, and dieback at branch tips often trace back to a clogged emitter or a drip line that never grew with the tree. I
Trimming and Pruning
We remove no more than about a quarter of a tree’s live canopy in a season, so the tree keeps enough leaves to feed itself and shade its own bark.
Cleanup and Haul-Away
Branches, fronds, and seed pods are hauled away, and patios, driveways, and rock beds are blown clean. Organic debris goes to a recycling facility instead of the landfill.
When to Trim and Prune Trees in Las Vegas
Timing is where most people go wrong with tree trimming, and the right window depends on the species. Here’s when to trim the most common trees in Las Vegas:
- Late fall through winter is the best time for most shade trees, olives, palo verde, and desert willow. Trees are slowing down, branch structure is easy to see, and cuts are not exposed to summer heat.
- Late spring is the window for mesquite and other fast growers that need thinning before the monsoon season.
- Late spring into early summer is best for palms.
- Late summer and early fall are the worst months for most trees, since fresh cuts face both heat and monsoon humidity. Hazardous limbs are the exception and should come down whenever they are found.

FAQs
Tree trimming cuts back overgrown branches to control size, shape, and clearance. Tree pruning removes specific dead, diseased, crossing, or weak branches to improve the tree’s health and structure. Most trees in Las Vegas need both over time.
Most established trees in Las Vegas should be checked and trimmed about once a year. Fast growers like mesquite may need attention every 6 to 8 months, especially before monsoon season, and palms are usually trimmed once a year.
Routine trimming of trees on your own residential property generally does not require a city permit. Trees in the public right-of-way, such as between the sidewalk and the street, belong to the city and need approval before any work. Your HOA may also have its own rules, so check with them first.
High-voltage lines on poles are NV Energy’s responsibility, and only their qualified crews should trim near them. Keeping trees clear of the service line that runs from the pole to your house is the homeowner’s responsibility, and that work has to be done safely around a live line. We will point out any branches near power lines and let you know the safest way to get them cleared.
A hurricane cut strips a palm down to a few upright green fronds. It is bad for the palm because those fronds feed it, and repeated over-trimming can cause the trunk to narrow and weaken below the crown.
Yes. We can check your trees during your regular landscape maintenance visits and schedule trimming when it’s needed, so problems get caught early instead of after a storm.
