Tree Stump Removal in Las Vegas, NV

We provide tree stump removal services in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV, for old palm, mesquite, ash, pine, palo verde, and olive stumps. We grind the stump below grade, chase the surface roots, haul the grindings away, and backfill the hole so the spot is ready for sod, artificial turf, rock, pavers, or a new tree.

Stump Grinding vs. Full Stump Removal

Tree stump grinding and full stump removal solve different problems. Grinding takes the stump down below the soil line and leaves the deeper roots to break down on their own. Full removal digs out the entire root ball. Most Las Vegas yards only need grinding.

Grinding Below Grade (Most Common)

A stump grinder chips the stump and its main surface roots into small pieces, typically 4 to 6 inches below grade. It is the faster, lower-impact option. It does not tear up the surrounding yard, and it is all you need before sod, artificial grass, or rock. For pavers, we grind deeper so the stump sits below the paver base.

Full Root Ball Extraction

Full extraction removes the stump and the root ball together. It makes sense when you want to plant a new tree in the exact same spot, pour a footing or slab, or set a structure where leftover roots would cause settling later. It takes more time and equipment, especially in caliche, so we only recommend it when the next project calls for it.

Our Tree Stump Removal Process

Every stump removal job in Las Vegas follows the same steps, so nothing gets missed and nothing under the yard gets damaged.

  1. Site check. We measure the stump, look at access through gates and side yards, and note what is nearby: walls, walkways, pool equipment, and other plants.
  2. Utility and irrigation line check. We call 811 to mark public utility lines before any work below grade. Private lines such as drip tubing, sprinkler laterals, and landscape lighting wire are not marked by 811, so we locate those on site and flag them before grinding. If an old line turns out to be leaking or damaged, our $80 irrigation evaluation checks the full sprinkler and drip system.
  3. Grind. The stump is ground below grade, with extra depth where pavers or a new tree are going in.
  4. Root chase. Major surface roots running out from the stump are ground out so they do not push up turf or rock later.
  5. Debris haul-away. Grindings and wood chips are cleaned up and hauled away. Organic material is recycled rather than sent to the landfill.
  6. Backfill and grade. The hole is filled with soil, compacted, and graded to match the yard so it is ready for whatever comes next.

What Makes Stump Removal Different in Las Vegas

Stump removal in Las Vegas is harder than the DIY videos make it look. Desert soil, irrigation layouts, and local tree species all change how the job is done.

Caliche and Rocky Soil

Much of the valley sits on caliche, a hard, cemented soil layer that can stop a shovel cold. It slows digging and grinding alike, and it is the main reason full root ball extraction takes longer here than in softer soil.

Irrigation Lines Near Stumps

Nearly every tree in a Las Vegas yard was fed by a drip line or emitter, so there is almost always tubing near the stump. We locate it before grinding, then cap or reroute the line that fed the old tree so the zone does not leak or waste water.

Mesquite, Ash, and Olive Roots

Not every problem tree needs to come out. If the tree is still standing and healthy enough to keep, tree trimming may be the better fix. Once a mesquite, ash, or olive is cut down, though, its roots can stay alive. Mesquite roots often spread far wider than the trunk suggests, and all three species can send up new shoots from roots left behind. Grinding the root collar and chasing the main surface roots stops most of that regrowth.

Termite and Pest Risk

A rotting stump is a food source for termites and other wood-boring pests. Subterranean termites go after decaying wood, and a stump left near the house gives them an easy place to start.

Palm Stumps

Palm stumps are different from hardwood stumps. A palm has no woody taproot, just a dense mass of thin, fibrous roots, and the trunk material is stringy rather than solid wood. Because that root mass stays fairly compact, smaller palm stumps can often be dug out whole, while larger ones are ground below grade.

Rock and Decomposed Granite Cover

Most Las Vegas yards are covered in rock, gravel, or decomposed granite instead of grass. Grinding through that layer throws rock and mixes it into the wood chips, making cleanup harder. We pull the rock back from the stump before grinding, clear out the chips, backfill the hole with soil, and spread the rock back.

Stump Removal Across Las Vegas and Henderson

Whether it is one palm stump in a Summerlin side yard or several mesquite stumps in a North Las Vegas backyard, every job gets the same line check, grinding, and cleanup. Homeowners in Green Valley, Anthem, and the rest of Henderson get the same crews and standards. If your HOA has rules on what can replace a removed tree, share them with us and we will plan the backfill and finish around them. For the sod, turf, irrigation, and rock work that usually follows a tree stump removal, see our Henderson landscaping services.

Turning the Stump Area Into Usable Yard Space

Once the stump is ground out and the spot is backfilled, it is ready for sod, artificial grass, rock, or a new tree.

Artificial Grass

Synthetic turf needs a compacted, level base. Grinding below grade and backfilling keeps the base from settling over the old stump.

Sod

Natural grass needs clean, level soil. We remove the wood grindings and add soil so sod installation takes root into dirt, not decaying wood chips.

Rock and Gravel

For desert landscaping, the area can be graded, covered with weed barriers where needed, and topped with rock to match the rest of the yard.

Tree Planting

Replanting in the same spot works best after full root ball extraction or deep grinding, since leftover roots and wood chips compete with the new tree. Our tree planting team can help you pick a species suited to the spot.

FAQs About Paver Installation in Las Vegas

Most residential stumps take about 1 to 3 hours to grind, including cleanup. Large mesquite stumps, tight access, several stumps, or full root ball extraction take longer.

Stumps are typically ground several inches below grade, which is enough for sod, artificial grass, or rock. For pavers, we grind to about [Y] inches so the stump sits below the paver base. For a new tree in the same spot, we grind deeper or recommend full root ball extraction.

Palms and pines do not regrow once the trunk is cut. Mesquite, ash, and olive can send up shoots from roots left in the ground. Grinding the root collar and main surface roots stops most regrowth, and any small shoots that appear can be cut back.

Yes. We locate irrigation lines before grinding and cap or reroute the line that fed the old tree. Near block walls, we grind what can be reached safely and leave roots under the wall footing in place so the wall is not undermined.

Yes. Grindings and wood chips are hauled away, and the hole is backfilled with soil and graded. Organic material is recycled rather than sent to the landfill.

Yes. Palm stumps have a fibrous root mass instead of a woody taproot, so we grind or dig them out based on stump size and what is going in the spot next.
